Commercial Energy Performance Certificates (commercial EPCs) has been a legal requirement since January 4th 2009.

The commercial energy performance certificate (commercial EPC) should be produced for each commercial property when marketing commences and made available in hard/soft copy format to any prospective buyer or tenant. The PENALTY for failing to make a commercial EPC available to any prospective buyer or tenant when selling or letting non-dwellings is fixed, in most cases, at 12.5 per cent of the rateable value of the building and capped at a maximum of £5,000. When a fine is enforced a commercial EPC will still be required.
